Jennifer had been in recovery herself for 33 years.
She thought she had the tools.
She thought she could handle it.
“I thought with my own experience in recovery, I was an expert and could be able to give [my son] what he needed.”
But for five years, her son isolated in his room.
Nothing changed.
She tried talking about it in meetings—
“But people stopped wanting to hear it. They didn’t know how to help. So I stopped talking about it and became ashamed.”
When she found Tipping Point, she didn’t come in full of hope.
She came in exhausted.
“When you’re in it day after day after day, it becomes this weight pulling you down, and I started to feel really hopeless.”
Like so many parents we work with, Jennifer had done everything she could think of.
She loved her son deeply.
She wanted to believe she could fix it on her own.
“I didn’t want to believe I didn’t know the answers. That I didn’t have the solution myself.”
But here’s the truth:
Loving someone through addiction takes different tools than most of us are given.
It takes more than love.
It takes recovery of your own.
One step you can take today:
Ask yourself this:
“Where in my life am I trying to hold it all together alone?”
Then:
➡️ Choose one conversation you’ve been avoiding, and say something honest.
➡️ Even just: “I’m struggling, and I think I need support.”
That moment of honesty was Jennifer’s turning point.
It can be yours, too.
I’d love to hear from you:
