She Called Me Into Her Office to Ask About My Data

A number of years ago, the Chief Medical Officer of a large insurance company called me, she wanted to meet.

She had been watching the outcomes of people in my program and wanted to know why the people we were working with were recovering at such a high rate. I met with her team and presented our work. They asked me to consider running a pilot program with their highest-utilizing members. Clearly she saw that our outcomes would help their bottom line.

Ever since then I’ve been on a mission and it’s why we collect data and track outcomes. There is a massive gap in how we treat behavioral health in this country.

Something big is missing.

Treatment treats the person using. Treatment was never built to treat what is happening around a person, how to help them after treatment, what to do when they stop after care, etc. etc.

Treatment was never designed to identify the family patterns, the dynamics, the ways the people who love them may be unsure what to do or how to support someone unwilling, in active addiction, or even in recovery.

That is the gap.

People are told they only have to change one thing. Everything.

Isn’t who they live with part of that everything?

My friends, this is fixable. We fix it every day.

And we are now ready to do something we have been building toward for a long time.

We are preparing to partner with a university research team to study our outcomes and publish our findings.

We know our data is compelling. We need the right academic partner to help us put it on paper, peer reviewed, published, and in the hands of the people who make decisions about how addiction is treated in this country.

This is where you come in.

Our list includes families, professionals, people in recovery, physicians, nurses, judges, social workers, and researchers. You are a community of people who already understand why this matters and you care!

Are you a researcher, or do you work in a department of psychology, public health, social policy, medicine, or sociology? We would love to hear from you.

Do you know someone who is? Please forward them this email.

If you can help, or you know someone who can, email us at support@tippingpointrecovery.com and let us know.

Speak soon,
Kate
