What is Recovery Conversations™ Intensive?

Recovery Conversations™ Intensive is the most comprehensive family recovery program there is.  Finally families can uncover the truth behind addiction and become empowered to end the cycle that the addiction has them trapped in.  Through life-changing lessons delivered by addiction and recovery experts, powerful coaching by leading interventionists and a 24/7 community forum, family members can heal, recover and thrive, thereby offering their loved one the best chance for success.  Co-created by Kate Duffy through her work with hundreds of families, it all began with conversations in an emergency department with those who had just experienced a non-fatal overdose.  Close to 200 individuals confirmed to Kate what her instincts knew to be true when they said…

“My family doesn’t understand me.”

“Will you please talk to my family.”

“My parents need to stop enabling me.”

“I don’t think I deserve to get well.”

“I can’t do this by myself.”

No one who recovers from addiction does it alone. For far too long we have left the hard climb out of addiction to the one person who is least qualified.  We have let the lying, denying, justifying and rationalizing that addiction is win.  Those who are caught in the cycle of addiction do not want to be there, despite what you are being told.  Families who come to understand the mental obsession that has highjacked the brain, the truth that addiction is not about drugs and alcohol and that the family system is stuck, can find a path to recover.  Families have been waiting for their loved ones to “want it” and to wait is to potentially lose the chance to recover.

We are doing this FOR our loved ones so that they CAN do it for themselves.

Kate Duffy

Kate Duffy is a highly sought after inspirational speaker, recovery coach and interventionist. She is a catalyst for sustainable change who has inspired growth and healing for hundreds of families over the past five years.

After facing and overcoming her own battle with substance use, Kate saw and felt the missing pieces at the recovery initiative tipping point. She has since made it her life’s mission to bring families into the recovery conversation.  Through hundreds of interventions, Kate created a proven and unprecedented family recovery model where families are empowered to begin the change needed so that their loved one can do the same.

Kate founded Tipping Point Recovery, Inc. and created Recovery Conversations™ the first recovery model that takes a holistic view of the individual. She is now sharing her program nationally so she can help more people and families to recover and heal.

Kate knows that successful, long-lasting recovery must bring together the client, the family and the treatment facility. Because of this unique perspective, she has changed the language of recovery for true healing.

Earl Hightower

Earl Hightower

For over 35 years, Earl Hightower has worked on the front lines of addiction and recovery. The unique perspective that only behavioral health intervention work can offer caused Earl to recognize that the greatest gap in addiction services is during the first 60 days following residential treatment.

Hightower Associates is the first of its kind to develop a series of companies that wrap the 30-90 day clinical service and expand the services offered our clients for up to one year.  We recognize that we are dealing with chronic, not acute issues.  This arc of treatment increases the success rate for effective transition into recovery exponentially.

Kate is a Black Belt in Al-Anon!  I’ve witnessed her doing her work—it’s not a job to Kate Duffy. It’s a CALLING. And she’s the one you want to call.”

Michael Wilson

Michael Wilson

Michael Wilson is the President of Baystate Recovery Center, a nationally recognized Certified Intervention professional (CIP), and the author of Loving Lions: A Guide for Families Struggling with Addiction.

Michael created the Family-Focused Intervention Model (CFI) and has designed a comprehensive training program for educating professionals and interventionists available nationwide, and is recognized as an approved educator by NAADAC, Pennsylvania Certification Board, and NASW National Association for Social Workers.

As a person in long-term recovery from Substance Use Disorder, Michael has used both his personal experience and his professional experience to help families and individuals in need navigate the rough terrain of the addiction industry. He has spent years building strong relationships with quality programs and local resources to better serve the community.

Michael has spoken publicly on multiple occasions and participates regularly in local family support groups about his work with families and how important healthy boundaries and communication can be in creating a more compassionate, yet focused, connection with loved ones struggling to find recovery.

Michael’s approach has helped countless families find peace amidst the chaos of addiction by educating them on the ways that they can change and improve the family system around their struggling loved one to promote healthy change and a better chance for success in recovery from addiction.

This methodology has been integrated into the Baystate Recovery Center model for treatment by encouraging families and other supportive loved ones to get the necessary services to help reinforce the changes their loved ones are making while in treatment.

Kate is a powerhouse for families! She is an amazing source of strength, knowledge, and support for families.

Q: I get that family recovery is important, but my immediate concern is helping my loved one. Is there a service you offer for them?
A:  This course is for them.

There were two main things that influenced my starting this program. The first was that when I was drinking, no one told my kids what was really going on, and I saw how deeply it hurt them. It caused pain that we as a family are still working to heal to this day. I didn’t want anyone else’s family to be kept in the dark when I knew the truth would make a difference. So in that way, yes, this course is for you.

But the second and even bigger motivation for me creating Recovery Conversations™ was that so many people are dying from drug and alcohol addiction. So many people. More than ever before. And I saw firsthand the ways the current system set up in this country to treat addiction is failing. This program is about closing the gaps, about changing the recovery model, and about changing the circumstances in your loved one’s life so they have the best possible chance at lasting recovery. You are that circumstance, but they are the one that change helps above all.

This course is not about making you feel better; it is about saving your loved one’s life. That will always be my priority, and by taking this course, you are making it yours as well.

Q: This program should be free.

A:  Yes, we too envision a world where all services that support mental and emotional health and addiction recovery are available and accessible to every one who needs them. Tipping Point Recovery’s documented data proves an over 87% success rate.  It is our hope that all providers will one day see that by treating the whole person within the whole system, recovery rates will dramatically improve as we are seeing with our clients.  Insurance companies and treatment facilities continue to refer families to our programs as our recovery rates are very high.  We’re always delighted to share the benefits of treating the whole system. Until we are fully funded, we will operate on a fee based structure in order to support our team and to allow us to continue to serve more families.  Families who enroll with us keep their loved ones in treatment longer and we know you agree that you and your loved one deserve to have the best chance for success.   Please email our headquarters if you’d like to join our initiative and bring the “this should be free” conversation to the table where we are working on just that!

Q: What if my loved one doesn’t want to get sober?

A: Addiction treatment is designed for those who don’t want it.  Addiction controls the brain, making someone less inclined to want recovery until after they start to get it (it’s a total catch-22).  Addiction treatment is for those who don’t think they need it.  That’s the nature of the disease, and this is why so many struggle: they are left to “want it” but the disease prevents most from seeing that on their own.  If you wait for your loved one to want it, you could end up waiting too long. Learning these tools is going to shift the energy around your addict through you so that their wanting will increase.

Q: Would this be a good course if my loved one is in treatment?

A: The timing of this course coinciding with when a loved one is in treatment is perfect, actually, and here is why. In treatment, your loved one is told they only need to change one thing: Everything.  As their loved one, you are part of their everything. By taking part in a program like this, you are helping your loved one change their everything and are partnering with them on a recovery path. We suggest you let them know you are enrolled in this program, let them know you are learning about addiction and taking part in 12 step work. They’ll be very happy (if they want to be sober).  They won’t be happy if they want to use/drink (but you will be so glad you did so you can better help).

This course will also give you the much needed skills and language to use to help your loved one stay in treatment longer than they may want to. You know that phone call you dread, when they say ‘”I’m ready to come home”?  We’ll give you the exact tools to help your loved one stay in treatment and be able to help them maintain their recovery once they leave treatment. The first 30 days post treatment is the timeframe when someone in early recovery is most likely to relapse. By being in this program, you will learn what to say and do to be a completely different container for them and their recovery, giving them a 5X greater chance at lasting recovery.

Q: I don’t know if I’m the right one to help because I don’t live with my alcoholic.

A: This is really common. We often have people call us who are two or three degrees of separation away from the alcoholic, and you’re right, the person closest to the alcoholic is the one who has the most influence. And this program will absolutely still work for you, because our curriculum is designed to move through the barriers of denying, justifying, minimizing and accommodating behavior. The work that we do is all about engaging people who don’t want to be engaged. Most commonly that is the alcoholic themselves, who is resistant to looking at what they need to do to change, but very often the people closest to the addict are just as resistant and fearful of what to do. If you come into this program, our first focus will be to help you engage those closest to your addict, just like we help people engage the addict themselves. For example, we have a woman in our program who is the sister of an alcoholic. She doesn’t live anywhere near her sister who is married. Before joining this program, she wasn’t able to engage her sister’s husband to get his wife the help she needed. Through this course, we are helping her to do just that. Ultimately, it doesn’t matter who starts the conversation, it just needs to be started. If you’re here, chances are it’s you who’s being called to begin the recovery conversation.

We built our proven family recovery model to be delivered virtually for one reason…

We are on a mission to teach every family we meet the truth about addiction, how to navigate a broken system and how to reclaim your voice and your power so that you can help your family recover.
