If nothing changes…

July 3, 2025

What happens if your loved one stays exactly as they are — same behaviors, same patterns, same choices — for another year?

That’s a hard question.

We asked our Facebook community what they think would happen if nothing changed, and here’s what they said:

💬 “That he will die. We’ve made three ER visits in two months.”
💬 “She’ll end up in the hospital or prison.”
💬 “He’ll give up on his dreams.”
💬 “My daughter won’t last a year.”

Some answers are quieter but just as heavy:

💬 “I won’t be able to do this for another year.”
💬 “If he stays the same AND I stay the same… I’ll be broke, alone, and drinking again.”
💬 “I’m not sure if fear is the word. It’s more like grief.”

Sound familiar, [First Name]?

Here’s what I do know…

You may not be able to change them.

But you can change how the next year feels.

You can change how you support them.

You can change how you respond.

And these changes will give them a greater opportunity to change.

You can reclaim your strength, your calm, your clarity.
You can stop reacting and start choosing.
You can stop enabling and offer healthy help.

Here’s your next step:

Ask yourself:

“If my loved one doesn’t change…what do I want to be different a year from now?”

Then:

➡️ Write down three things that are in your control to shift.
➡️ Choose one small action to take this week.

Even a tiny shift—one new decision, one healthy boundary, one brave step—can start to change everything.

I believe in you,
